[moonv6] RE: Vista DNS behavior - Re: [nav6tf] IPv6 news - weekly summary

From: Chris Mitchell (cmitch@windows.microsoft.com)

moonv6 post from Chris Mitchell <cmitch@windows.microsoft.com> John, Bill and others in NAv6TF and Moonv6:

We do not believe these claims are accurate and we feel we have made every effort to ensure we properly balance enabling a robust and fully functional IPv6 client that co-exists with current IPv4 network deployments.

We have provided an in depth response to the authors of the story and we are working on a brief to explain how our DNS client works and hope to publish it to www.microsoft.com/ipv6 soon. I'm confident that once you all review that information you will reach the same conclusion we have and that you will see this works as you would expect.

Thanks for all your support beta testing Vista IPv6 functionality. I know John's team has provided great feedback as have many others on these distribution lists. It is via this beta testing and the volume of users participating that we can ensure the product behaves correctly in the "real world". Thanks to you all, Windows Vista will be a much better product.

I would encourage you all to leverage the Microsoft.com IPv6 TechNet site as a source of information on the capabilities in Vista. We are working to provide more and more information via that site in the coming months as Vista is released.

Thanks again,

Chris Mitchell

John,

Thanks. I may attempt to contact the authors of the article to encourage them to clarify. It would also be good to see a statement from someone at Microsoft clarifying why it is unlikely (in this case, anyway) that Vista's behavior may cause DNS servers to melt down. Not that a clarification that the Internet won't melt down is anywhere near as interesting as an article suggesting Vista might melt down the Internet ...
