Folks,
All know of the PR and MOU between the IPv6 Forum and Open Group www.opengroup.org. That is in process to develop a plan now and a way forward. The IPv6 Forum Logo Committee is aware of this process and will have direct input to this evolution. Also the IPv6 Forum is a recognized full member of the Open Group now so we will be able influence this process of course. This also should not slow down in anyway the work for our IPv6 Forum Logo program and it is my opinion there will be no replacement venue for our logo at least until 2007, unless things move far faster than currently.
The objective is to develop an IPv6 Product Standardization Profile Branding Program that is far more robust than we can possibly develop within the IPv6 Forum and a significant extension to our Logo Program.
I am coordinating this effort for now and my objective is to develop a plan that can be shared with all. The key contributors to this effort advising and supporting me are Dave Green, Yanick Pouffary, and Ben Schultz. Latif and Patrick as President and Vice President of the IPv6 Forum are supporting this too, working with us as it evolves.
I want to make one very clear point for us that must be clarified. This is not a program to only support the U.S. DoD. That has been stated to me and that is completely false, this program will support IPv6 deployment world wide. We also view industry and government as partners, neither should be dominant, and that will not be the case. In addition the U.S. DoD still has not stated support for this effort as the DoD, but neither have any industry corporations either. The DoD concern is that we should not reference this program in any documents or words as a "certification" program. It will create issues within their entity testing scenarios and policy. The IPv6 Forum agrees and completely supports the U.S. DoD's concern as a note. The process to remove the term certification program from within the current Open Group literature is in process between the IPv6 Forum and the Open Group. Anyone who states this has official support of the U.S. DoD is in error and needs to be educated to the current state of affairs.
I will send update to you all at critical mile stone events for this collaborative effort with the Open Group as they evolve.
Thanks
/jim
