Hello,
I think that we reached the conclusion of the addressing scheme. From comments received from the participating service providers it seems like there is no agreement on one best solution because they each use different philosophies to operate their networks. Thus to simulate the multiple service provider environment, we will use both, varying the addressing scheme from AS to AS.
The UNH-IOL topology has 5 ASes. AS 2 and AS 3 will have the /64 masks and AS 1, AS 6 and AS 4 will have the point-to-point addressing of /120 and /124. Each AS is allocated a /56 and the addressing is designed in a hierarchical manner. Special thanks to the service providers at UNH that worked hard to make this scenario realistic and designed the addressing architecture.
We will document this scheme in the results whitepaper so that others can learn from our experience.
This means that tomorrow all router vendors will have to take some time to renumber their devices, but that should not cause too many issues. This will be an excellent test of IPv6 renumbering.
By the way, the network at UNH is working. Test vendors could send traffic between all the sites as of this evening.
Please keep this thread discussion going. I think that this is a really important discussion topic.
Thanks,
-Ben
