From: Bound, Jim (Jim.Bound@hp.com)
Date: 02/07/06

Folks,

Attached are the slides I will use today in D.C. at the Willard Hotel for IPv6 Transition Guidance Briefs sponsored by the Potomac Forum.

 <<NAv6TF_IPv6_Transition_Best_Industry_Practices_20060202.pdf>>

Also thanks to Joya Subudhi I will being doing press interview this Thursday or Friday with influential news paper regarding the RTI press and the 25 billion as CTO IPv6 Forum and Chair NAv6TF. I will take all input provided and reflect the views here and Vint's initial concern. Joya and I will not reveal the newspaper until after it is over.

Also see below some non NAv6TF input that is anonymous.

Not to cast doubt or aspersions upon the economic estimates in this report, but from the second page of the report itself comes the following:

"As a part of this report by RTI International, NIST requested estimates
of transition and other costs associated with the Internet Protocol. The quantitative information contained in the RTI report is based on an extremely limited number of participants, including interested stakeholders. Further, because of the early phase of transition to the new Protocol, all estimates obtained are preliminary in nature and subject to significant revision. The results presented, therefore, are not to be regarded as statistically significant, but rather as rough indications of how industry and government costs may unfold underdifferent transition strategies. Thus, the quantitative information contained in this report is meant to be used only as an illustration, not as a definitive assessment."

and

"The estimates provided in this document were largely based on
stakeholder interviews conducted by RTI. RTI identified potential interviewees by reviewing lists of participants from the informal discussions, RFC commenters, and stakeholders participating in the public meeting. In several instances, stakeholders that were interviewed approached RTI and asked to be included in the study."
